How it works
Printable cold cases, solved at your table
Cold Case Vault is a library of printable cold case files you solve at home. Each case is one PDF of period documents: witness statements, police reports, letters, autopsy notes and newspaper clippings.
Print it, spread it across the kitchen table, read everything, then name the killer. Every answer is in the paper, and sealed hints are there if you get stuck.
How a case is made
Every case is checked before it goes in the vault
Code plans the crime first. AI then writes and illustrates it, and the case has to pass a check after every step. A step that fails is redone. If it keeps failing, a person takes over.
- Blueprint: Code plans the whole crime before any AI: victim, 4 to 6 suspects, timeline, alibis, clue trail and red herrings. Check: Two separate clue trails must lead to the killer. Every innocent can be cleared. A plan that fails is re-rolled.
- Writing: AI writes 20 or more period documents from the plan, each suspect in their own voice. Check: Every document must match its required format. Notes from the AI left in the text send it back.
- Cross-check: Code compares every document with the plan and with each other. Check: Times, names, the murder object and the forced entry must agree everywhere. Clashing pages are rewritten.
- Read-through: AI readers go through the full text before any picture is made, one as a detective new to the case. Check: The detective must name the right killer from the documents alone. The text is scored on seven measures.
- Pictures: AI draws a reference sheet for each character so the same face appears on every page, then the scene and evidence. Check: AI vision checks each numbered scene marker and each evidence photo against the text. Misses are repainted.
- Final review: The printed PDF is read page by page by an AI reviewer. Every name is checked against real people and places. Check: 95% overall and no score under 85%, or the weakest pages are redone, twice at most.
- A person checks it: Cross-check still failing after 2 rewrites; Wrong killer named, or a low score; Final review still under the bar after 2 redos; A name matches a real person, crime or place; 1 in 10 cases that pass, picked at random.
- In the vault: Cases that pass every check go on sale as one printable PDF.
Cold Case Vault files are AI-generated. Each case is reviewed by an automated multimodal evaluator for consistency, solvability, and content suitability before publication. Cases it flags go to a person, and a person also checks a random sample of the rest. All characters, names, locations, and events are fictitious — any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, or to actual events, is purely coincidental.
