90s Throwback

90s Throwback

Description

Step back into the radical world of the 1990s at the launch party for 'ByteBoom,' the hottest new tech startup promising to revolutionize the internet. Hosted at the luxurious mansion of tech mogul Chip Romano, this gathering of Silicon Valley's elite, pop culture icons, and ambitious entrepreneurs takes a dark turn when jealousy, ambition, and old rivalries surface amid the backdrop of dial-up modem sounds and neon decor.

Plot

It's December 31, 1999 - the eve of Y2K - and ByteBoom's launch party should be a celebration of the company's groundbreaking web browser that promises to make its creators billionaires when markets open in the new millennium. The mansion is filled with tech pioneers, music stars, and investors all vying for a piece of the action. But beneath the surface lies a web of corporate espionage, bitter rivalries, stolen code, and personal vendettas. As the clock ticks toward midnight, the party is thrown into chaos when someone is found dead in Chip's private server room. With the mansion locked down due to Y2K security protocols and a snowstorm raging outside, the killer must be among the guests. Each character has connections to ByteBoom, motives for murder, and secrets they'd kill to protect.

Dress Code

Embrace the 1990s aesthetic! Think flannel shirts, ripped jeans, combat boots, and band t-shirts for grunge lovers. Tech moguls might sport khakis with tucked-in polo shirts, oversized suits, or early 'business casual' with cell phone holsters. Women can don slip dresses, chokers, platform shoes, or high-waisted jeans with crop tops. Don't forget iconic 90s accessories like slap bracelets, scrunchies, butterfly clips, wallet chains, or tiny sunglasses. Tech props like brick cell phones, portable CD players, or early laptops add authenticity. Hair can be big, frosted-tipped, or featuring the iconic 'Rachel' cut.

Speaking Style

Pepper your conversation with 90s slang like 'All that and a bag of chips,' 'Talk to the hand,' 'As if!', 'Booyah!', or 'Whatever!' Reference 90s pop culture including Friends, The X-Files, Seinfeld, and movies like Clueless or Pulp Fiction. Tech enthusiasts should excitedly discuss the 'information superhighway,' worry about Y2K, or debate whether 'this internet thing' will catch on. Music fans can argue over Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam, Tupac vs. Biggie, or Backstreet Boys vs. NSYNC. Frequently mention how things will be 'totally different' in the 2000s with hilariously inaccurate predictions about the future.

Poppy Diskette

A 24-year-old rising pop star known for her bubblegum pop hits and technicolor style. Poppy has been invited to perform at the ByteBoom launch and is rumored to be the face of their upcoming advertising campaign. Behind her innocent facade lies a shrewd businesswoman who sees ByteBoom as her ticket to building a digital entertainment empire. She's been spending unusual amounts of time with the tech team, claiming she's 'just learning how the internet works,' but some suspect she understands more about programming than she lets on.

J

Justin Thyme

A 26-year-old former child star turned venture capitalist who's always fashionably late. After making millions from a sitcom in the early 90s, Justin reinvented himself as a tech investor with an uncanny ability to spot the next big thing. He's ByteBoom's primary investor and stands to make billions if the company succeeds. Known for his flashy lifestyle and celebrity connections, Justin harbors deep insecurities about being taken seriously in the tech world. Recently, he's been pressuring Chip to go public with ByteBoom sooner rather than later, creating tension between them.

C

Chip Romano

The charismatic founder and CEO of ByteBoom, Chip dropped out of MIT to start his first company at 19. Now 32, he's known for his eccentric personality, visionary ideas, and ruthless business tactics. His mansion is filled with both cutting-edge technology and 80s arcade games. Recently, rumors have circulated that ByteBoom's revolutionary code might have been stolen from a competitor. Despite his public bravado, Chip is secretly worried about Y2K crashing his empire before it even launches.

M

Meg A. Byte

A brilliant programmer and ByteBoom's reluctant Chief Technology Officer. At 30, Meg is known for her coding genius and no-nonsense attitude. She claims she joined ByteBoom only after Chip promised her partial ownership, though the paperwork was never finalized. Fiercely private, few know about her past creating early hacking tools or her connection to the mysterious online persona 'Millennium Bug' who threatens to expose Silicon Valley's secrets when the clock strikes midnight on Y2K.

W

Warren Firewall

ByteBoom's 45-year-old head of security and former government intelligence operative. Warren's paranoia about corporate espionage and hacking has led him to implement extreme security measures throughout Chip's mansion. He speaks little about his past, but rumors suggest he was involved in classified technology projects before joining the private sector. Warren has been warning about security vulnerabilities in ByteBoom's code, but his concerns have been largely ignored in the rush to launch. He keeps detailed files on everyone at the company and seems to know everyone's secrets.

L

Liv Linksys

A mysterious 38-year-old networking specialist who joined ByteBoom just three months ago. Liv claims to have worked for various tech companies, but her resume has convenient gaps. She's been instrumental in developing ByteBoom's server infrastructure but keeps odd hours and has been spotted in restricted areas of the mansion. Liv has a photographic memory and an uncanny ability to extract information from people. She's particularly interested in ByteBoom's proprietary connection protocols and has been asking pointed questions about the company's security measures.

M

Max Overload

A 29-year-old former hacker turned ByteBoom systems administrator. With his distinctive mohawk and perpetual energy drink in hand, Max embodies the cyberpunk ethos of the 90s. After narrowly avoiding prison for hacking a major bank at 19, he was recruited by Chip to help build ByteBoom's infrastructure. Max is brilliant but erratic, often disappearing for days on coding binges. Recently, he's been expressing concerns about a backdoor he discovered in ByteBoom's code that could allow someone to access users' personal data. His warnings have been dismissed as paranoia fueled by too much caffeine.

P

Penny Pincher

ByteBoom's 41-year-old Chief Financial Officer with an iron grip on the company's purse strings. Penny's financial wizardry has kept ByteBoom afloat during its development phase, but her cost-cutting measures have created enemies throughout the company. She's particularly focused on the company's IPO plans, working closely with investment banks to maximize valuation. Recently, she's been pushing to launch ByteBoom's browser even with known security flaws, arguing they can be patched later. Behind her cold exterior lies a gambling addiction that's left her deeply in debt to dangerous people who are demanding payment by the new year.

W

Wanda World-Wide-Webb

A flamboyant 35-year-old marketing genius responsible for the massive hype surrounding ByteBoom. With her colorful suits and larger-than-life personality, Wanda has convinced the world that ByteBoom will change everything about how people use the internet. She's masterfully orchestrated the launch party to attract maximum media attention. Secretly, Wanda has been in talks with ByteBoom's main competitor about jumping ship after the launch, taking her marketing prowess elsewhere for a substantial payday. She's also been collecting sensitive information about ByteBoom's executives as 'insurance' for her future career moves.

R

Ray Dial-Up

A 52-year-old veteran of the tech industry who serves as ByteBoom's VP of Business Development. Ray started in the industry selling early modems door-to-door in the 1980s and has survived multiple tech bubbles through his extensive network of connections. He's the only ByteBoom executive who remembers life before the internet and often bores younger employees with stories of 'the old days.' Ray has been quietly meeting with ByteBoom's competitors, claiming he's securing partnership deals, but some suspect he might be selling company secrets. His recent divorce has left him bitter and in need of cash, making him vulnerable to bribes.

F

Faye L. System

ByteBoom's 27-year-old lead quality assurance tester with an uncanny ability to break any software put in front of her. Quiet and methodical, Faye has identified numerous critical bugs in ByteBoom's browser but has been increasingly frustrated that her reports are being ignored as the launch date approaches. She maintains detailed records of every flaw she's found and who decided to ignore it. Recently, she's been working unusual hours, claiming she's doing final testing, but security cameras have caught her accessing servers outside her department. Faye has a twin sister who works for ByteBoom's main competitor, creating potential conflicts of interest that she hasn't disclosed.
