Plot Synopsis

The year is 1720, at the height of the Golden Age of Piracy. A reclusive former pirate captain, Barnabas 'Gold Tooth' Jenkins, has summoned an eclectic group to his island manor with the promise of sharing a map to the legendary treasure of Captain Blackbeard. Each guest has a connection to the seas and a potential claim to the treasure. As the evening progresses, tensions rise when it becomes clear that someone in the party has a hidden agenda that goes beyond mere treasure hunting. Long-buried rivalries surface, old betrayals are remembered, and when a violent storm cuts the island off from the mainland, the gathering becomes a deadly game of cat and mouse. The map is missing, alliances shift like sand, and someone among them will stop at nothing to claim the treasure – even murder. Players must navigate treacherous social waters, uncover long-buried secrets, and determine who among them cannot be trusted before the killer strikes again.

Known for his unpredictable temper and strategic mind, he's respected and feared in equal measure. Despite his fearsome reputation, he's grown lonely in his old age and harbors regrets about his violent past. The treasure map came into his possession under mysterious circumstances, and he's gathered this particular group for reasons beyond simple hospitality.

The daughter of a respected naval captain who was killed in a pirate ambush fifteen years ago. Commodore Rigby 'Righteous' Waters

Profile:

A decorated naval officer known for his zealous pursuit of pirates across the Caribbean. His spotless uniform and rigid posture reflect his inflexible moral code. His presence at a gathering hosted by a former pirate raises eyebrows, but he claims to be there on official business. In truth, the Commodore has a personal vendetta against someone in attendance and is using his position to settle an old score. Despite his outward appearance of propriety, Waters has compromised his principles more than once when it served his ambitions, a fact he keeps carefully hidden.

A ship's surgeon with experience serving on both naval vessels and pirate ships. His medical skills are legendary, as is his ability to keep secrets. Graves has treated everything from battle wounds to tropical diseases, earning him the nickname 'Sawbones' for his surgical expertise. His black medical bag contains both conventional remedies and exotic cures collected from around the world. Though he presents himself as a man of science, Graves has a superstitious streak and wears several protective amulets hidden beneath his clothes. He claims to be at the gathering to reconnect with old patients, but he's actually searching for a specific medicinal plant rumored to grow only on Serpent's Isle—one that could cure a mysterious ailment he's been battling in secret.

Mei 'Mystic' Lin

Profile:

A skilled navigator and herbalist who escaped a life of servitude aboard a merchant vessel to forge her own path. Lin's uncanny ability to predict weather changes and find safe passage through treacherous waters has earned her the nickname 'Mystic' among sailors. She combines traditional Chinese medicine with knowledge gathered from indigenous healers throughout the Caribbean, creating remedies that many consider magical. Though quiet and observant, Lin misses nothing and has accumulated secrets about nearly everyone at the gathering. She came to Serpent's Isle ostensibly for the treasure, but is actually seeking revenge against someone who betrayed her family years ago. The elaborate tattoos on her arms are not merely decorative—they contain a coded map that complements the one Jenkins possesses.

Behind his carefree facade and ready laugh, Rodrigo harbors deep insecurities about his humble origins and is desperate to be accepted among the elite. He claims to be interested in Blackbeard's treasure for its monetary value, but is actually more intrigued by the possibility that the legendary pirate possessed a secret rum recipe said to be worth a fortune to the right buyer. Vasquez also has a personal connection to someone else at the gathering that he's keeping carefully hidden.

Octavia 'Kraken' Blackwood

Profile:

A fearsome female pirate captain who has carved out a reputation in a male-dominated world. Her ship, The Kraken's Revenge, is known for its black sails and the distinctive tentacle design painted on its hull. Blackwood earned her nickname after supposedly surviving an attack by the mythical sea monster. In reality, she fabricated the tale to intimidate rivals, though few would dare accuse her of lying. Beneath her tough exterior lies a strategic mind and a fierce loyalty to her crew, many of whom are women escaping difficult circumstances. Octavia claims to be at the gathering to represent the interests of working pirates, but she's actually investigating rumors that the treasure map leads to evidence that could clear her mother's name from historical accusations of treachery. She suspects someone at the gathering knows the truth about her family's past.

Ishmael 'Ivory' Whitmore

Profile:

A soft-spoken cartographer and scholar who specializes in translating ancient maritime texts. His pale complexion and white-blond hair earned him the nickname 'Ivory,' which he tolerates but doesn't particularly like. Whitmore's academic credentials are impeccable, and he's published several respected works on pirate history. He presents himself as a dispassionate researcher interested in the historical significance of Blackbeard's treasure, but his true motivation is personal—his ancestor was Blackbeard's quartermaster, and family legend holds that he was betrayed by someone whose descendant might be at the gathering. Beneath his scholarly demeanor, Whitmore harbors a deep obsession with righting this historical wrong and restoring his family's honor. The antique silver compass he always carries was supposedly owned by his infamous ancestor.

Zara 'Cutthroat' Cortez

Profile:

A skilled swordswoman and bounty hunter who specializes in tracking down pirates with outstanding warrants. Her nickname comes not from cruelty but from her precision with a blade—she can disarm an opponent without drawing blood if she chooses. Cortez operates in the gray area between law and piracy, selling her services to the highest bidder, whether naval authorities or rival pirate captains. Her mixed Spanish and indigenous Caribbean heritage gives her connections in multiple communities. Zara claims to be at the gathering because Jenkins has a bounty on his head that she's considering collecting, but her true purpose involves the treasure itself—she believes it contains an ancient weapon that could shift the balance of power in the Caribbean. The distinctive scar across her left cheek came from her first bounty hunt, a reminder she keeps to stay vigilant.

Percy 'Parrot' Pembrook

Profile:

A flamboyant merchant who specializes in exotic goods from around the world. Known for his colorful clothing and ability to mimic accents and speech patterns (hence the nickname 'Parrot'), Pembrook uses his chameleon-like social skills to move between various social circles with ease. His ship, The Curious Cargo, is famous for bringing unusual items to Caribbean ports, from spices and silks to rare animals and artifacts. Percy presents himself as a lighthearted businessman interested in the treasure for its potential commercial value, but he's actually a spy for the British Crown, sent to gather intelligence on potential uprisings among the pirate communities. The ornate walking stick he carries contains a hidden compartment for transporting secret messages, and his seemingly frivolous gossip conceals sharp observation skills. Despite his duplicitous profession, Pembrook has developed genuine affection for several people in the pirate community, creating increasingly uncomfortable divided loyalties.

Dress Code

Required Attire

Guests should dress in 18th-century pirate or naval attire. Men may wear loose shirts, vests, breeches, boots, and tricorn hats. Women may choose flowing skirts, corsets, and head scarves. Naval officers should wear military jackets with brass buttons and white breeches. Accessories such as eye patches, compass necklaces, bandanas, costume jewelry, and prop weapons (no sharp edges) are encouraged. Weather-beaten looks, scars (makeup), and sea-faring details will enhance the authenticity. For those playing specific roles like merchants or aristocrats, appropriate period clothing with a maritime influence is recommended.

Speaking Style

Voice Guidelines

Speak with the flair of the high seas, peppering your speech with nautical terms and 18th-century expressions. Address fellow pirates as 'mate' or 'ye scallywag,' while naval officers might use 'sir' or 'madam.' Feel free to adopt accents that suit your character's background – British, Caribbean, or other seafaring regions. Use phrases like 'Shiver me timbers,' 'Avast ye,' or 'Blimey' sparingly for authenticity. Refer to money as 'pieces of eight' or 'doubloons.' When discussing directions, use 'port' for left and 'starboard' for right. Maintain your character's social standing in your speech pattern – educated characters should speak properly, while rougher characters might use more slang. Remember your character's motivations and secrets in all conversations, and react appropriately to revelations about the treasure map.
