Plot

The wealthy resort owner Kai 'Big Wave' Kahuna has invited an eclectic group of guests to celebrate the grand reopening of the Coconut Cove Resort's famous Lava Lounge. The evening promised to be filled with tropical drinks, island cuisine, and entertainment. However, as the night progresses, tensions rise between guests who share complicated histories. Old rivalries, business deals gone wrong, romantic entanglements, and family feuds bubble to the surface. When the lights suddenly go out during a traditional fire dance performance, chaos ensues. When the lights return, someone is discovered dead. With a tropical storm cutting off access to the mainland until morning, the remaining guests must work together to uncover which among them is responsible before the killer strikes again.

Cast

C

Coral Cashington

A wealthy socialite and travel influencer whose family made their fortune in shipping. Presenting herself as merely a glamorous guest, Coral is actually Brock's silent business partner in numerous resort developments across the Pacific. She uses her social connections and seemingly innocent presence to gather insider information about properties they target. At Coconut Cove, she's been charming staff and photographing 'for her social media' while actually documenting the property's layout and operations for future development plans. Recently, she discovered concerning information about Brock's business practices that has her questioning their partnership.

K

Kai 'Big Wave' Kahuna

The charismatic owner of Coconut Cove Resort, Kai built his empire from nothing after discovering this pristine beach 30 years ago. Known for his business savvy and charm, rumors swirl about how he acquired the land and the true source of his wealth. Recently, he's been secretive about new investors in the resort and has been acting strangely, as if threatened by someone. Despite his jovial public persona, Kai has made enemies through his aggressive business tactics and has been receiving threatening notes that he's tried to hide from staff and guests.

L

Leilani Lagoon

The resort's entertainment director and former island beauty queen, Leilani has been the heart and soul of Coconut Cove for decades. She organizes the luaus, hires performers, and ensures guests have an authentic Hawaiian experience. Behind her warm smile lies resentment toward Kai for choosing the resort over their relationship years ago. She's been pushing for more recognition and a stake in the business, feeling her contributions have been overlooked. Recently, she discovered financial documents suggesting Kai might be selling the resort to mainland developers who plan to destroy its cultural authenticity.

M

Marty Maitai

The resort's flamboyant head bartender known for creating legendary tropical cocktails that have put the Lava Lounge on the map. Marty knows everyone's secrets, overhearing countless conversations while mixing drinks. Recently promoted to beverage director, he's been arguing with Kai about the direction of the resort's bars. Marty wants to preserve the authentic tiki experience while Kai has been pushing for modernization. What guests don't know is that Marty has been secretly meeting with competing resort owners, potentially planning to take his famous recipes elsewhere, which would devastate Coconut Cove's reputation.

P

Penny Piña-Colada

Once Marty's assistant bartender and now his fierce competitor, Penny recently returned from training at prestigious bars around the world. Kai invited her to the reopening to potentially offer her a position running a new bar concept at the resort. Penny harbors resentment toward Marty for taking credit for cocktail recipes they developed together years ago. She's ambitious and determined to make a name for herself, even if it means stepping on others. What no one knows is that she's been secretly photographing Marty's private recipe book to replicate his famous concoctions.

B

Brock 'The Shark' Sharker

A mainland real estate developer with a reputation for buying paradise locations and transforming them into commercial tourist traps. Brock has been aggressively pursuing Kai to sell Coconut Cove, envisioning a high-rise hotel complex that would destroy the resort's authentic charm. Known for his cutthroat business tactics, he's not above threats and manipulation to get what he wants. He arrived uninvited to the reopening celebration, claiming he just happened to be vacationing nearby. In reality, he's been secretly meeting with potential investors to force Kai's hand in selling the property.

P

Professor Palms Palmtree

A renowned cultural anthropologist studying traditional Polynesian rituals and tiki culture, Professor Palmtree has been a guest at Coconut Cove for three months while researching a book. The professor has become increasingly concerned that the resort's representations of Hawaiian culture are inauthentic and exploitative. Recently, the professor discovered ancient artifacts on the property that suggest the resort was built on culturally significant land, possibly even a sacred burial site. This discovery could halt any development plans and damage the resort's reputation. The professor has been having heated arguments with Kai about preservation versus commercialization.

T

Tiki Tom Torchbearer

The self-proclaimed 'world's greatest tiki bar designer' responsible for the Lava Lounge's new look. Tom has built his career creating commercial versions of Polynesian culture for tourists. He views tiki as a fun aesthetic rather than something requiring cultural sensitivity. This has put him at odds with Professor Palmtree, whom he considers pretentious and bad for business. Tom has been secretly altering some of the resort's authentic artifacts with commercial reproductions, selling the originals on the black market. He's worried the professor is close to discovering his scheme, which would ruin his reputation and career.

G

Ginger Fizz

A former Hollywood starlet trying to revive her fading career, Ginger is at the resort to discuss filming a comeback movie on location. Known for tropical-themed films in the 1950s, she's hoping to capitalize on the current tiki revival. Behind her glamorous facade, Ginger is desperate for this opportunity as her financial situation is dire. She shares a complicated history with Kai from his brief time in Hollywood before he established the resort. Ginger knows damaging secrets about Kai's past that could ruin his carefully constructed image, and she's not above subtle blackmail to secure the film deal she needs.

B

Buzz Beachcomber

A washed-up action movie star from the early 1960s who specialized in South Pacific adventure films. Buzz is now working as Ginger's manager and is desperate to help revive both their careers with this potential film project at Coconut Cove. He and Ginger had a tumultuous relationship both on and off screen years ago. Buzz harbors resentment toward Kai, believing the resort owner stole a film concept from him decades ago that could have prevented his career decline. He's been drinking heavily during the event and making increasingly hostile remarks about Kai's success being built on other people's ideas.

M

Mona Monsoon

The resort's mysterious new meteorologist who arrived just weeks before the reopening. Hired to help the resort prepare for Hawaii's unpredictable weather patterns, Mona keeps to herself and is often seen taking notes about more than just weather conditions. She claims to have worked at weather stations across the Pacific, but her references are vague. In reality, Mona is investigating the resort for an environmental watchdog group, suspecting that Coconut Cove's construction and operation have damaged local ecosystems and violated environmental regulations. She's gathered concerning evidence but hasn't decided yet whether to expose Kai publicly or blackmail him privately.
