Medieval Masquerade

Medieval Masquerade

Description

Medieval Masquerade: A night of intrigue at Castle Ravenscroft, where nobility gathers for the annual masked ball amidst whispers of treachery, forbidden romances, and ancient feuds. The flickering torchlight casts long shadows across stone walls as guests hide their true intentions behind ornate masks.

Plot

The annual Masquerade Ball at Castle Ravenscroft brings together the kingdom's most influential nobles, each with their own agenda. As the clock strikes midnight and masks are to be removed, a commotion erupts. Someone lies motionless on the grand ballroom floor. Was it poison in the wine? A dagger concealed beneath velvet robes? Or perhaps dark magic? The castle is immediately sealed by the Royal Guard, trapping all guests inside until the culprit is found. Ancient family rivalries, disputed land claims, a contested royal succession, and forbidden love affairs all provide potential motives. A mysterious fortune teller present at the ball claims to have foreseen the tragedy but speaks only in riddles. Players must navigate court politics and deception to uncover the truth before the night ends.

Dress Code

Guests should wear medieval-inspired attire: long gowns, tunics, doublets, cloaks, and brocade fabrics in rich jewel tones. Accessories should include belts, brooches with family crests, and simple crowns or circlets for nobility. Most importantly, all must bring an ornate mask that conceals at least half the face. Incorporate elements that reflect your character's status and profession - scholars might have ink-stained fingers, knights could wear a ceremonial dagger (plastic/fake), and court advisors might carry scrolls. Comfortable shoes are recommended as the evening involves much mingling.

Speaking Style

Address nobility with proper titles such as 'Your Grace,' 'My Lord/Lady,' or 'Your Excellency.' Refrain from using modern slang or references. Speak formally, using phrases like 'I bid thee welcome' instead of 'hello' and 'I take my leave' rather than 'goodbye.' When disagreeing, maintain courtly manners with phrases such as 'I beg to differ, My Lord' or 'If I may offer a contrary view, Your Grace.' Gossip should be shared in hushed tones behind fans or goblets. Knights should stand at attention when royalty enters and scholars may quote ancient texts. Remember that medieval society was highly status-conscious - servants would never address nobility directly without permission, and nobles would rarely acknowledge those of lower status except to give commands.

His sudden interest in court politics after years of avoiding such matters has raised eyebrows.

Though dismissed as a charlatan by some, her predictions have an unsettling way of coming true. She claims to have had a vision of great bloodshed at the masquerade ball but refused to name names. Her quarters in the castle tower are filled with strange artifacts, herbs, and ancient texts in languages few can read.

Recently, he's been researching ancient prophecies about the royal line.

Lady Bea Trayed

The beautiful young wife of an elderly duke who is rarely seen at court due to his poor health. Her rapid rise from lady's maid to duchess raised eyebrows, but her charm and apparent devotion to her husband eventually won over most critics. She has a remarkable talent for languages and serves as a translator during diplomatic visits. Her private correspondence with nobles from enemy kingdoms has raised suspicions, though she claims these are distant relatives. Recently widowed, she now stands to inherit vast estates unless her husband's children from his first marriage can prove their claims of foul play.
